Straight from Parents:
The Impact of Progress Tracking
"LettuceBuild" helped Daniel organize the lessons he learned from ACF and clearly summarize the direction he should take moving forward, which was helpful in making future plans.
The "Recommended next steps" and "Resources" modules are the most useful. They clearly show what steps to take after finishing the current high school startup team and the paths that alumni have taken, which helps in planning for the future.
I don't find any modules on this page unnecessary. I believe every module has been helpful for Daniel's STEM journey, and I appreciate the effort in creating this LettuceBuild progress page for him.

Zora Zhang
Software Engineer at Databricks
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign | Computer Science
The High School Foundation (Student Years)
Zora joined LettuceBuild during high school with a curiosity about AI and web development. Through our hands-on project-based curriculum, she didn't just learn to code—she learned to think like a technologist. Our structured mentorship system helped her develop real-world project execution skills and critical thinking approaches that traditional education often misses.
The College Leadership Phase (Student Intern & Mentor)
At UIUC, Zora returned to LettuceBuild as a student intern and later as a college mentor, working with younger students while continuing to refine her own skills. She served as Tech Lead for Hack4Impact, engineering software products for non-profit organizations. This dual role—mentoring others while advancing her own technical capabilities—honed her communication skills and leadership presence. She learned to explain complex concepts clearly, manage projects, and inspire teams—skills that would prove invaluable in interviews.
The Career Launch (First Professional Role)
Upon graduation, Zora joined Databricks as a Software Engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her experience leading technical teams at LettuceBuild and Hack4Impact translated directly into her ability to collaborate across functions and communicate technical decisions effectively. The confidence she built through years of mentoring younger students became her interview superpower—she could articulate her thinking process, demonstrate leadership, and show genuine passion for problem-solving.
The LettuceBuild Edge
"Through LettuceBuild's mentoring system, I didn't just write code—I truly felt myself growing into a 'real' developer. The experience of teaching others solidified my own understanding and gave me the confidence to walk into interviews knowing I could handle whatever came my way. When interviewers asked about my leadership experience, I had concrete stories about managing technical teams and guiding students through complex projects."

Albert Hao
Software Engineering Intern at PayPal
Columbia University | Computer Science & Business Management
The High School Foundation (Student Years)
Albert discovered LettuceBuild during high school when he was passionate about technology but unsure how to channel that energy into tangible skills. Through our collaborative project-based approach, he worked on real sustainability challenges while developing full-stack capabilities. More importantly, he learned the entrepreneurial mindset—how to identify problems, propose solutions, and pitch ideas effectively.
The College Leadership Phase (Student Intern & Business Coach)
At Columbia, Albert evolved from student to leader by returning as a student intern and eventually a college mentor at LettuceBuild. He guided high school students through startup projects while simultaneously working on his own ventures like OnTrack (an AI productivity app) and Entredev (a business development platform). This dual role sharpened his ability to present complex ideas simply—a skill that became crucial when interviewing for competitive internships. His experience teaching others to code and pitch their ideas made him a naturally confident communicator.
The Career Launch (First Professional Role)
Albert secured his software engineering internship at PayPal, competing against thousands of applicants. What set him apart? His years of leadership training at LettuceBuild gave him the edge. During interviews, he didn't just recite technical knowledge—he told compelling stories about leading teams, managing stakeholders, and delivering results under pressure. His involvement with Columbia's student government and debate team complemented the practical leadership skills he'd honed at LettuceBuild, making him a standout candidate who could both code and lead.
The LettuceBuild Edge
"LettuceBuild taught me that being a great engineer isn't just about writing elegant code—it's about understanding the business context, communicating with stakeholders, and leading teams toward a vision. When I interviewed at PayPal, I could speak confidently about my experience mentoring students, managing projects, and navigating ambiguity. Those soft skills, combined with my technical capabilities, made all the difference."

Grant Cheng
Simulation Software Engineer at Wisk (Autonomous Aviation)
UC San Diego | Computer Science
The High School Foundation (Student Years)
Grant joined LettuceBuild as a high school student with a passion for machine learning and data science. Through our AI-focused curriculum and sustainability-driven projects, he learned to approach complex problems systematically. He didn't just complete assignments—he collaborated on real-world challenges, learned to articulate his reasoning, and built the foundation for a career at the cutting edge of technology.
The College Leadership Phase (Student Intern & Mentor)
While studying CS at UC San Diego, Grant returned to LettuceBuild as a student intern and college mentor, guiding the next generation through AI and machine learning projects. This experience was transformative—explaining algorithms to beginners forced him to truly master the fundamentals, while mentoring teams taught him how to delegate, motivate, and resolve conflicts. These leadership experiences became powerful talking points in interviews, demonstrating maturity and initiative that most new graduates lack.
The Career Launch (First Professional Role)
Grant landed his role as a Simulation Software Engineer at Wisk, a cutting-edge autonomous aviation company in Palo Alto. In a highly competitive field requiring both deep technical expertise and strong communication skills, Grant stood out because of his LettuceBuild training. His years of mentoring experience made him comfortable presenting technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders—a critical skill in interdisciplinary fields like autonomous systems. His confidence in interviews, honed through countless mentoring sessions, helped him articulate his passion for AI and his vision for contributing to revolutionary technology.
The LettuceBuild Edge
"My time as a mentor at LettuceBuild prepared me for the real world in ways I never expected. When Wisk asked me about leading cross-functional projects or explaining technical decisions to diverse stakeholders, I had real examples from my mentoring experience. I wasn't just another CS graduate with good grades—I was someone who could lead, teach, and inspire. That's what got me the job in one of the most competitive fields in tech."
